The Angel of the Water

The words of the hunt

The words you will meet on the site, in GodGift Core and in the author’s messages, explained simply.

Chain (the Bitcoin chain)
Bitcoin’s public ledger, kept by thousands of computers around the world. What is written there is never erased. That is where the chests, the author’s commitment and the payments are.
Chest
a bitcoin address holding a sum, opened by a key that two riddles and a cry let you rebuild. Twenty-four chests in the main hunt, three in hunt zero.
Stone, cathedral, final
the three sizes of chest. Nineteen stones (€60 to €115), four cathedrals (€300), one final chest (€1,300). Cathedrals and the final chest take a four-word answer instead of three.
Riddle
a question published on the site, on the 3rd and the 17th of the month at 18:15:05 UTC. Its answer is a few French words from the list of five thousand.
The five thousand
the public list of words all answers are taken from, numbered 0001 to 5000. Its fingerprint is engraved with the hunt.
Answer
the words that answer a riddle. You test them in GodGift Core, at home; they never leave your device.
Cry
a small secret from the Cave, published one hour after a chest’s second riddle: the last piece of the key. Without it, the answers are not enough; with it, the first to have the answers can open it.
Key
what lets you take a chest’s contents. It is rebuilt from the two answers and the cry. Whoever has it can use it; nobody else.
Taking
the moment someone empties a chest. It shows on the chain. The author then publishes the solution, signed.
Commitment (made at the sowing)
before the start, the author engraves on the chain a fingerprint of all the solutions. When a solution is published, anyone can check it matches the commitment: the author could not change his mind along the way.
Sowing
the moment the chests are created and funded, in the Cave, before the start.
Signed message
a text from the author with a signature GodGift Core can verify. Nobody can speak in his place.
The Cave
the author’s offline computer. It signs the messages, prepares the chests and the riddles, and never touches the Internet.
GodGift Core
the free program that verifies everything by itself (chests, balances, signatures) and where you test your answers. Windows, Mac, Linux, or in the browser.
Fingerprint
a string of 64 characters that identifies a file to the byte. Two different files never share one. Every version of GodGift Core publishes its own.
Witness
a hunter who, after verifying with GodGift Core, lets the program publish a report signed by an anonymous key: the block, the fingerprints, the result. Never imposed, no personal data; you can stop at any time.
Companion
a reader who makes the book and the hunt known, and receives a share of every sale they bring. They have no access to the riddles or the answers.
Custodian
the person who keeps what is needed for the hunt to go on if the author disappears. They do not know the answers.
Keeper of the riddles
the person who keeps what allows a riddle to be published as a fallback if it has not appeared at its hour and the author can no longer do it. The site says a keeper exists; their name stays sealed. They do not play.
Rescue clues
two clues per chest, written in advance and sealed: the first opens by itself thirty days after the cry, the second one hundred and eighty-two days after the cry, if the chest is still full.
Hunt zero
the trial run, three chests of €100, riddles on 3 and 17 November 2026.
The door
the site’s home page: a padlock that dials itself before your eyes at every visit, until 3 January 2027 at 18:15:05 UTC, when the door disappears for everyone.
Terms and conditions
the full rules, and the only reference in case of doubt.
